Solutions to fixing slow phones

For Android Devices

Android systems tend to collect “cache” (temporary files) that can become bloated over time.

Android systems tend to collect “cache” (temporary files) that can become bloated over time.

  1. Clear App Cache: * Go to Settings > Storage > Apps.
    • Select your most-used apps (like Chrome, Social Media, or YouTube) and tap Clear Cache.
    • Note: Do not tap “Clear Data” unless you want to be logged out and lose app settings.
  2. Use the Built-in Optimizer:
    • Go to Settings > Battery and Device Care (or “Storage”).
    • Tap Optimize Now. This clears out temporary system files and closes “ghost” apps running in the background.
  3. Check the “Downloads” Folder:
    • Open the Files (or My Files) app.
    • Check the Downloads folder for old PDFs, restaurant menus, or installation files (.apk) you no longer need.
  4. Remove Orphaned Files:
    • In the Files app, look for “Clean” or “Junk Files.” This safely identifies leftovers from apps you have already deleted.
  5. Backup and delete old videos and photos that you don’t look at regularly:
    •  Look for big videos or duplicate photos in your DCIM folder, consider deleting these files.

For iPhone (iOS) Devices

Apple handles files differently; it doesn’t have a “Clear Cache” button for every app, so you have to be a bit more strategic.

  1. Offload Unused Apps:
    • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
    • Enable Offload Unused Apps. This removes the app itself but keeps your personal data. If you ever need the app again, you just tap it to reinstall.
  2. Deep Clean Safari:
    • Go to Settings > Safari.
    • Scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. This removes years of hidden web tracking files that can slow down browsing.
  3. Manage “System Data”:
    • In the iPhone Storage menu, scroll to the very bottom to see “System Data.”
    • If this is over 10–15GB, the best way to clear it is to restart your phone. This forces the system to delete temporary logs and update files it no longer needs.
  4. Review Large Attachments:
    • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Messages.
    • Tap Review Large Attachments. This lets you delete large videos or photos hidden inside your text conversations without deleting the actual chat.

One Final Universal Tip

Restart your device once a week. This clears the “Random Access Memory” (RAM), which is the digital equivalent of clearing off a messy desk so you can start fresh.
