3G is going to shutdown!!

3g Network !! Why is it closed? Not everyone is ready for the change over. We have helped countless people with the transistion with either a new phone or help transfer to another phone they own or purchase.

Come and speak to us.

DATA RECOVERY

Its happened to everyone, dropped the phone, its stopped working. Most phones are replaceable, but data is not. Hopefully you have your data backup, but if you haven’t, what do you do?

Bring it in to us to try recover data. We actually need to get stable power to the phone and do an itunes backup or just a photo and contacts recovery. Cost for the basic recovery onto USB is $80-$120.
Most jobs take 1-2 weeks.

If we don’t get it going, there is no charge.

Call me on 0402186411, and I’ll be able to confirm that we can work on your phone.

Cheers Minh

Water damaged my phone, what do I do now?

Let me run down the Dos and Don’t of a water damaged unit.

1. Do turn it off
2. Do NOT charge it.
3. Do dry it with a hair dryer (10 mins on HIGH until its so hot you cant touch it. Don’t worry you can’t damage it anymore than it already is) or leave in Sun for 2-3 hours.
4. Do NOT leave in rice, it takes ages (and wont do much as your phone is not dismantled), don’t do it! Do you put your clothes in rice?
4. Once cooled, Do try turn it on. If it fails, you can now try charge it, and try turn it on.

More often than not, it will work. If you do this quickly. It may not work perfectly as some things could have been damaged, but having some power is better than none.

5. Back up the phone!! I can’t stress enough, how many people need their photos or contacts. Why risk it, Backup today!!!!!

Then bring it in to us to try salvage the unit or recover your data.

Call Minh on 0402186411, 8am-6pm, any standard day. And I would be happy to assist you as much as possible.

Open at night?

SMM Mobiles will be open tonight for South Melbourne Market night market tonight on the 23rd February. Come in and say Hi.

Tonight will be the last night the south melbourne market is running the night market for this summer season.

2017, what will it bring?

Happy 2017, and a big Happy Chinese new year to all Chinese/Vietnamese and other cultures who follow the Chinese new year lunar calendar.

What a year it has been, 2016 gave us a huge renovation, which was a change that was desperately needed. Better storage and more room to work.

With the new Samsung range that spiked up prices in screens, they were too expensive! And the NOTE 7, wow, what a hit samsung took!

Myself, I got laser eye surgery done, and still recovering, I’m typing this with blurred vision!
But can’t wait to have fully healed eyes, soon I hope.

Waiting for Samsung s8 and maybe another note 8? Help Samsung recover from the Note 7 ruins. But of course Apple will bring out more ipads and iphones during the year. This year should be the big one.

Can’t wait.

Water Damage

We have all heard it happens, someone drops their phone in water/liquid. But when it happens to you, what do you do?

Hopefully you have already had done a recent backup ! If not, do it NOW. Or tonight, ASAP.

Imagine loosing your phone, would you miss your data? Photos, contacts…….

Back to water damage, first thing you should always do, is remove your battery, if possible. Many phones can’t, so next step, is just to dry it. But do TURN IT OFF.

Rice or heat???? I will always tell you, heat will dry faster than rice. So I’d recommend Heat. Use a hair dryer. Heat it until it’s hot, close to untouchable. (Aim is to remove all water, so corrosion doesn’t start)

Wait for it to cool. Heat again. Try even leave in the sun.

Ideally, you would dismantle it, and then dry, but that’s not always possible.

Try turn it on, if it doesn’t. Don’t charge it. If you try charge it, there is a chance the extra power, may cause a short if the liquid was not completely evaporated.

Bring it in to a repair store. If it didn’t work.

We will try to do our best, a simple clean is $50, and parts on top if needed, to get a resolution. If we don’t fix it, there is no charge. So you have nothing to lose.

Have you dropped your phone? Has it stopped working?

At SMM Mobiles, located in South Melbourne Market, we are your experts who you can turn to, to get your mobile phone, tablets and game consoles fixed.

No matter the severity, bring it in to our south melbourne store, to get a free assessment and advice which you won’t get from anywhere else.

Dropped phones resulting in cracked screens and water damage are the most common issues we encounter, and there are some common misconceptions roaming around the internet.

The most common is mot screens now, are a full assembly, meaning the touch screen ‘glass’ can not be simply removed by itself. Its a full assembly, meaning it contains ‘ glass + LCD +frame’ Don’t get ripped off by ebay sellers, selling only the ‘glass’

Water damage, don’t put it in rice immediately, it doesn’t work. Firstly, take out the battery if possible, then use a hair dryer, or leave it in the hot sun. you want your phone hot to evaporate the water. Rice sucks up the water, which is much slower.

Quality is more important than price

Many people who go shopping purely on ‘price’ comparison, lose sight on the importance of quality.

I’ve always been a firm believer in ‘value for money’. Even I don’t want to get ripped off. So when I ask a trader which is most ‘value for money’, that is what I buy.

At SMM Mobiles, we are not the cheapest, but I personally oversee, all purchases and have full quality control on all my accessories and stock, including repair parts.

If its not 100% quality, its not good enough, I reject it! My suppliers know this, and well, they know how picky I am, and won’t give me anything below par. Otherwise they lose out in the long run.

I have bought all my parts locally, to guarantee quality (I will even try to get original – if possible), and have always taught my staff,

“do it properly, or don’t do it at all”

Like I said, I’m not the cheapest, but if you want ‘value for money’ you know where to find it.

Ask yourself, is it worth saving $10, $20, or even $30 if you have to deal with problem after problem. We have seen a few customers, who have had iphone screens fixed, and had proximity problems. Imagine putting your friends and family on HOLD/MUTE or loud speaker, constantly wonder why? As you didn’t have that problem before getting your phone fixed!!

To add to that, they have bad customer service……..
